The City of Stamford completed a master plan for Cummings Park, West Beach, and the Cummings Marina in April 2015. Located on Stamford’s coast, Cummings Park is 79 acres and West Beach is 26 acres. While there is a small neighborhood between them, they are connected by Cummings Marina. Together, the two parks include two beaches, a pond, six ball fields, two side-by-side soccer fields, six tennis courts, a basketball court, a restroom building next to the basketball court, a pavilion with restrooms, concession buildings, beach volleyball courts, and open lawn space.
The plan will be the basis of renovations that allow all users to enjoy our facilities and to enhance the active and passive recreation amenities. At the same time, there are elements of this park that need upgrading, like the pavilion and the marina, which was mostly destroyed during Superstorm Sandy. Beyond amenities and physical improvements, the plan addresses sustainability, operations, maintenance and utilization, and making our beaches and park grounds more resilient to future storm events.
The City retained the services Stantec Consulting Services Inc. from Hamden, CT, who lead the design process. Their subconsultants from Roberge Associates Coastal Engineers developed the marina plan and the beach resiliency planning study.
